Botswana:Botswana is a very stable country and relatively safe to travel. The government has a policy to have a low tourism impact on the country's game parks and therefore entry fees are very high. Kenya:Kenya has had its fair share of political turmoil but at the moment it is a very popular destination again. It has some fantastic landscapes and safari destinations although not the cheapest. Safety in Nairobi and travelling on the road to Mombasa is a concern. Malawi:Malawi has some of the friendliest people you will find in the whole of Africa. For the average Western Traveller there are few facilities (and at a price), however for the overlander with a bit of time available, this is little gem. This is a laid-back country and the old African saying 'Pole Pole' (Slow Slow) is at the order of the day. Mozambique:Mozambique is one of the poorest nations however with a potential bright tourist future with the help of one of the most beautiful coastlines in Africa. Not for the average self-drive Westerner however great island and beach resorts to fly to and from South Africa - which increase the cost of travel. Safety concerns in Maputo. Namibia:Namibia is relatively unknown in comparison to all it has to offer. Together with Botswana, the lowest population density in the world. Fascinating desert landscape that will entice the biggest rainforest fan. Relatively cheap and good safari experiences and ease to travel are but a few of the advantages to visit this country. South Africa:South Africa needs no introduction necessary with its apartheid past. A World in One Country - an astonishing variety of landscapes and no wonder so many people return over and over and some even stay. Prices are on the increase but a cheap holiday/safari outside Johannesburg and Cape Town is still to be had. Safety concerns in down-town Johannesburg and Cape Town Centre especially after dark. TanzaniaTanzania is a country with some of the highest concentration of wildlife. Maybe not the easiest country to travel with public transport however the sight of the extinct volcano of Ngorongoro and the sight of millions of animals on the Serengeti Plains and the highest free-standing mountain (Kilimanjaro) will place Tanzania very high on any 'To-Do' list. ZambiaZambia is very quickly busy to create a name for itself as a true African Wilderness experience with game reserves like South Luangwa and lower Zambezi. Not easy to get by on a tight budget and travelling normally occurs by means of charter flights making Zambia out of reach for many travellers. ZanzibarZanzibar - The Spice Island. White beaches and care-free times. A combination of many cultures and quite interesting from a historical perspective. Hotels are either cheap (not high quality either) or on expensive side. ZimbabweAlthough a lot of bad publicity deminished tourism in Zimbabwe to a trickle, you will still find some of the friendliest people. It is very safe in Victoria Falls but due to a constant shortage of fuel, travelling to the beautiful interior can be difficult. |
